COURSE PROJECT

Dogs in Shelters | 2019 Data

This project explores dog shelter data to help people understand the conditions surrounding how animals end up there. Around five thousand animals are admitted to shelters every year. This visualization aims to provide a general understanding of how dogs in animal shelters arrive and how they end up. The visualization is a swarm chart that represents the intake information of each dog admitted to the Sonoma County Animal Service Shelter in 2019. Each circle represents a dog admitted to the shelter, its colour and vertical grouping represents how the dog arrived at the shelter, and the horizontal location is the date of arrival. By clicking the outcome button you can see the journey of each dog to how and when they ended their time in the shelter.
